Handsworth RUFC

 Ayia Napa 2000

We had pleanty of spelling practice.

In case the Reps forgot who we were!

It is the duty of all rugby players and supporters to promote the great game of rugby throughout the world. This usually takes the form of the Rugby tour, and with the exception of certain British Lions, "What goes on tour, stays on tour".

Some said the view was better from the back!

A handsome bunch?

This tour will include the important aspects of cultural site visits (usually a local brewery or Guinness pub, although a local vineyard will suffice), liaison with locals, partaking of local cuisine, sampling local night life, watching a game and (if unlucky) actually playing a game of rugby.

I don't sing!

Karokee kings, available for weddings..........

Here at Handsworth we take our missionary work very seriously. In June 2000, fifteen (four more flew out for week 2) brave souls flew from Manchester to the outback of Ayia Napa! Two weeks of sun, sun-burn, clubbing, tormenting reps and alcohol. Being the excellent ambassadors we are, O'Rourkes (the local Irish Bar) were persuaded to get additional Sky Channels so that we could watch the South Africa - England tour. All in all a very sucessful trip, only two trips to the hospital - Richie Morgan for a broken foot, and a rep who did not realise he would always come second in the choice of "rep or Club"!

Can you see the relief on the Reps face!

Relieved Reps say Goodbye to HRUFC.

Several important lessons learnt for our younger inexperience tourists, the main one being do not tell your mate and his girlfriend when and where you are going on tour!! No surprise when they both turned up on the first night!! Luckily it was only the first week. The second lesson - astro turf, the mid-day sun and alchol do not make for a good game of rugby, even it was only against some footballers.
