After years of various
people talking about putting one on, Blake Watkins and Leighton
Shingles took up the challenge, (along with Allan Drummond and
Dave Powell) and the first Summer Ball was born. Tickets sold
very quickly and the event was sold out with several weeks to
go, many Handsworth regulars were disappointed not to be able
to obtain a ticket. They will know for next year - BOOK EARLY!!

All the gents turned up in Black tie, so luckily
TC and his door crew were not required, and the ladies all looked
fantastic in their gowns and little black numbers. Whilst waiting
for the food an Irish bingo session was held, with ex President
John Powderley walking off with £250. John suddenly found
out how poplar he was, although this soon wained when he refused
to buy the drinks!

The band played a mixture of 60's and 70's
and got everybody up on to the dance floor immediately. The
DJ had an easy task in keeping the party mood going whilst the
band took a well earned break. The band returned with a
rousing Blue Brothers session (always a favourite at any rugby
club) and the pressure began to take its toll onsome of the
revellers. The DJ finished the evening off keeping everyone
in the party mood to the small hours.

Apart from Blake and his cohorts, thanks must
also go to John and his bar staff, and the two glass collectors
Andy and James (senior players from the mini section).
